The Van arrived still on french plates

The Citroen H type van is now being restored also side canopy conversion, the van is basicly quite sound for the age of it.There is some welding work to do underneath to chassis and floor but not major, will be a lot of surface rust to remove before paintwork can start. Will be fitting a s/h right hand door as original is badly damaged also the rear is accident damaged pushing rear wheel arch out will need pulling back to open arch back up.The side is going to be removed to form a sales counter and canopy

Still on French plates
The H van as it arrived

Citroen H type van
Plenty of dents both in and out

Arch damaged
Rear arch pushed towards wheel

Arch pulled back to shape came quite easily with no sign of rot so chassis is strong enough in that area allthough there is quite a bad area of corosion on one of the large crossmembers, the other same area of chassis has allready had a section welded in at sometime in the past. Only other main areas of corosion are on the actual bodywork mainly on the left hand side of the van which will be cut out and sections welded in to place, for this we have the front wings off other vans that sections of good metal can be reused.

Crossmember
Coroded crossmember will be removed

Repaired crossmember
Faricated and fitted new crossmember

Side will be removed to for a canopy to serve coffee and patiseries from at various locations, As this is the early van the section can actualy be removed by removing the bolted on trim, allthough the panel will be used for the canopy it does have to be cut to size, also needs quite a bit of strength adding so as to hinge without flexing and to fit the supporting stays which will hold up the canopy.
